Specialized - GYROKINESIS method

Cancelled
GYROKINESIS method Description
WHAT IS GYROKINESIS® TRAINING METHOD?

GYROKINESIS® classes can be adapted to fit anyone's ability. People from all walks of life including accomplished athletes, fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens, and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability take Gyrokinesis classes. By the end of a Gyrokinesis session, one's entire system is awakened and brought into greater balance. Focus on the breath stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in a sense of calm, wellbeing and mental clarity.

The Gyrokinesis Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method, which coordinates movement, breath and mental focus.

The Gyrokinesis Method is practiced on a mat and chair, without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a Gyrokinesis class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

WHAT IS A GYROKINESIS® CLASS LIKE?

Each class begins on a chair with a gentle warm up sequence to awaken the senses, and stimulate the nervous system. This is followed by a series of fluid spinal motions which increase range of motion, and prepare the body to explore more complex movements with agility, and ease. Class continues on the floor with exercises that expand on the spinal motions, gradually adding more complex sequences, incorporating more movements of the hips, shoulders, hands and feet. The floor exercises are followed by a rhythmic standing sequence that incorporates balance and cardiovascular exercises; then ends with a calming, unwinding sequence designed to prepare the body and mind to reintegrate with the every day world.

Mysore style - Ashtanga Description
In Mysore style classes, the teacher will work with you one-to-one to teach you the proper alignment of each posture of the Primary Series. This is the way Ashtanga is taught in Mysore India where this practise comes from.

In this class you will go through the sequence on your own pace and rhythm, practising the postures you’ve learnt and linking breath with movement.

We recommend you to attend an Ashtanga class first to become familiar with the Primary Series sequence.

This class is suitable for practitioners that are familiar to the Ashtanga series or that can follow the sequence with an instruction guide.

Anna Scigacz
My journey with yoga started with a “prescription” from a physiotherapist for more soothing and balanced type of movement than I was into at that time of my life. It was over 12 years ago. I must admit I didn’t love it at first sight at all. Sounds familiar?

Some time later thanks to a birthday gift of yoga studio membership, I decided to give yoga another try. Different studio, different teachers, different styles. It clicked a bit more but still not quite got me convinced. I was coming to classes semi-regularly with some on-off periods and somehow silently yoga started to find its way to my heart.

Moving to Asia to live and work in a very high paced environment for a couple of years got me much closer to what I really needed at this time to balance my stressful and fast life. Less gym, less running, less pushing, less undermining, more understanding, more listening to what body needs. That was the time when I got completely hooked - both feet in.

I still was and still am in a very demanding and challenging mode choosing Ashtanga Vinyasa as my main style. Not being in a rush though. Understanding that it is a never ending journey of one asana after another, one concept after another, peeling patiently those layers covering deeper and deeper knowledge.

After some 8 years of slowly becoming a practitioner I decided it is time to share: experience, passion, love…all of it. That is when I went through my first teacher training in Ashtanga Vinyasa style following with constant workshops and development with my teachers. Later on I also completed a Asana Sequencing and Anatomy training to better understand the body and better serve different students needs.

In my teaching I want you to understand that your practice is primarily your practice. Everything comes after. You are your first teacher and you know your body best. Listen to it, then listen to your teacher and be fine with any limitations you encounter on the way. They are not there forever and each practice differs from one another. Challenge yourself but yet at the same time ditch the expectations and steep demands towards yourself then wonders will start happening. Just watch it.

She knew immediately that she wanted to dedicate her future to learning and teaching this noble philosophy of life.

Govinda Cator
My mother was the first one introducing me to Bhakti Yoga when I was born. Bhakti is one’s natural state, a state when the heart is overloading with joy and love for God, Everything that is exists. This beautiful practise keeps on teaching me and inspiring me to share yoga with everyone.

I started practising asana when I felt an urge to improve my life. I was suffering from chronic pain, scoliosis and just had a very stressful life. Asana changed my life, it became the time to be with myself and the pause I need from the outer world. I started seeing the benefits: more energy, clearer mind, awareness of one’s feelings, taking better decisions.

I love teaching yoga because it keeps improving my life and I want other people to benefit from it too, connecting the body with the mind, to understand the existence of the spirit and the connection with everything that exists. Asana is just the beginning of yoga to be able to calm the mind, the highest form of yoga is Bhakti Yoga and this one is my highest goal.

Namaste,

Govinda

Mindfulness Description
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing without being overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Whenever you bring awareness to what you’re directly experiencing (through your senses) or to your state of mind (through your thoughts and emotions) you’re being mindful and growing research show that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodeling the physical structure of your brain.

Buddhist monks have practiced Mindfulness for thousands of years before it started becoming extremely popular among businessmen, hospital patients, students and people under psychological stress.

From breath and bodily sensations , from emotions to thoughts, Mindfulness Meditation helps us put some space between ourselves and our reactions by breaking down our conditioned responses and it improves greatly our quality of life , including our mental health and our relationship with ourselves and others.

This class is an excellent way to start your journey to become aware of yourself while learning to accept whatever you experience -physically, emotionally and mentally- without judgement. It helps cultivate authentic self-compassion, self-forgiveness and self-love and extend them to others around us.

I’ve always been a very active and energetic child, climbing trees, cycling, running around - you name it! When I was about 11/12 years old doctors discovered I had osteoporosis in my right knee due to skeletal abnormalities in the hips and thighs. I needed a major operation and was wheel chair bound for 6 months, had to learn how to walk again! It alienated my body from me and it took me till my early twenties to actually reconnect my body and soul into one being. I started taking Ballet classes at age 24 and then got into Pole Fitness one year later. I realized that my body was much stronger than I had thought for a long time and I slowly started to love it again with all its faults and little restrictions. In 2016 I discovered yoga and it completely transformed my life! My mind, body and soul finally became one again! I wanted to share this experience with others, so in 2017 I took the RYT200 Yoga Teacher Training. I’ve been teaching yoga ever since and I love to spread the knowledge, experience and benefits that yoga provides. In autumn 2019 I took an extra 30 hours of advanced yoga teacher training to deepen my own practice and improve my teaching skills further. I love Vinyasa because when you flow through your asanas you feel so light, it’s like a dance of your mind and body, it feels so weightless and free! I’m looking forward to meeting you and guide you on your yoga journey. Lots of love and light!

Aaron Falzon, started practising yoga in Thailand in 2012 during which I attended a Thai Oil Massage course. In 2013 I deepened my practise of Hatha yoga in Rishikesh, India. While being there I was lucky enough to attend daily satsangs by Prem Baba and ShantiMayi. This is where I really decided to be on team consciousness. I discovered so many new things about myself at this vital time. Conscious breathing and being conscious with your words among others.

Later in 2013 I completed a Traditional Yoga teacher training course at Yoga Vidya Gurukul, an ashram in India. In 2015 I was back at the Ashram to attend two courses; Advanced Yoga course & Mantra course. In 2017 I was in Bali to complete Level 1&2 Yin Yoga TTC by Sebastian Pucelle. Here I was introduced to so many new ingredients to put into my practice. I choose to always be a student of what I love. All of it. I have lighthearted attention to detail and passionate dedication to the practice. It can be a struggle at times but my Yoga is the underlying force keeping all of the pieces together. Yoga reminds me that everything is connected so we must live, act, dance, breathe with awareness. If the journey really is the reward, then I choose to enJOY the journey. I hope you will join me.

Namaste,

Govinda

workshop - Chakras & Prana - Healing from the inside
Annalisa Giostra
Cancelled
Chakras & Prana - Healing from the inside Description
Chakra (“wheel” from Sanskrit) translates as a center or a Vortex in our energetic body, which is deeply interconnected with our physical body.

Prana – the life force energy, flows through pathways in our energetic system creating those main Vortexes.

Generally, it is believed that there are seven main chakras located along our spine, though some of the ancient texts mention hundreds of other smaller chakras throughout the whole body.

The energetic state of each chakra has an effect on our physical body and its physiological functions (circulatory system, nervous system, internal organs etc.), our psychological and sensory system, and as a consequence on our emotions and feelings.

By nature energy flows freely throughout our whole body, although it can get blocked in some areas and flow irregularly, causing negative effects on our physical, psychological and emotional well-being. Therefore, each illness is considered to be an abrupt (irregular) flow of energy, which has materialized itself as a sickness on a physical level. It happens due to some chakras getting more active (as more energy accumulates there) and others becoming less functional (less energy flows there). However, the energy can be manipulated in order to balance it out and bring body back into its natural healthy state again.

There are various tantric and yogic methods that work on the energy and the individual functioning of each chakra and through this Workshop we will explore practical ways to master those methods.

From Specific Breathing Practices,to Kundalini Kriyas, from sacred sounds to guided meditations and spiritual coaching, we will gradually learn to read our internal energy map and turn into our own healers, by understanding the deep end undeniable Wisdom of our Body.

Open to students who have already attended our first Workshop on similar subjects and to new practioners who would like some practical and spiritual insights to improve their general well-being in a steady, reliable way.

Annalisa Giostra

We’ve designed the workshop in a way that it is totally suitable for arm balance & inversions newbies as well as more intermediate/ advanced upside-down practitioners! However, this workshop is not suitable for students who are completely new to yoga! We’re expecting students to be familiar with common yoga poses and able to follow a faster-paced vinyasa class.

Speaking of which... the workshop is structured as follows:

We’ll be warming up together with very specific and targeted stretches and drills which are progressively more integrated into a fun vinyasa flow sequence to heat up the entire body and prepare for the work to come. The warming up part takes approximately 1 hour!

After the warm-up, we’ll be splitting the class into two separate groups - beginners/ intermediates and intermediate / advanced practitioners! This helps you to get the full focus of the teacher and the maximum result for your practice! This part involves detailed explanations of asanas, which parts of the body to activate, how to spot and cue someone you’re helping out and lots of lots of fun practice! This part will take up approximately 1 1/2 hours!

The final part involves cooling off, stretching, relaxing and some awesome massage techniques that you can try on each other. We’ll end the workshop in savasana listening to Mariana’s beautiful voice.

Coming from a Dance background, I always had a passion for movement, connection and awareness to what’s happening within and around me. I started my Yoga journey as I needed a different kind of workout. Something that would exercise my mind, ease my thoughts to help my body. What I discovered went way beyond my expectations, beyond my mental and physical. Through a regular practice, Yoga makes me explore many aspects of my Self and helps me feel centered. As I am becoming more mindful and tuned to the adventure of life, I’m willing to share my knowledge with generosity and kindness to anyone willing to try!
The Yoga I teach is a full Body – Mind – Spirit experience that will make you sweat with fun, improve your physicality and connect with yourself.

Healing - Prāṇāyāma and Meditation for Emotional Health
Annalisa Giostra
Cancelled
Prāṇāyāma and Meditation for Emotional Health Description
When you experience stressful thoughts, your sympathetic nervous system triggers the body’s ancient "fight-or-flight" response, giving you a burst of energy to respond to the perceived danger. Your breathing becomes shallow and rapid, and you primarily breathe from the chest and not the lower lungs.

This can make you feel short of breath, which is a common symptom when you feel anxious or frustrated. At the same time, your body produces a surge of hormones such as cortisol and epinephrine (also known as adrenaline), which increase your blood pressure and pulse rate and put you in a state of high alert.

With deep breathing, you can reverse these symptoms instantly and create a sense of calm in your mind and body. When you breathe deeply and slowly, you activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which reverses the stress response in your body.

The basis for all deep breathing practices originates in the science of Yoga, specifically the branch of yoga known as Pranayama. The word pranayama is derived from two Sanskrit words: prana (life force) and yama (control). By controlling the breath, you can influence every aspect of your life.

Beyond the practice of simple deep breathing, the ancient yogis described different types of rhythmic deep breathing techniques that can have differing effects on the mind and body. In fact, many studies document the beneficial effects of yogic breathing in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and asthma. (3,4,5) There are also theories that support the notion that by slowing down and controlling the breath, we can improve our longevity.

Deep breathing stimulates the main nerve in the parasympathetic nervous system—the vagus nerve—slowing down your heart rate, lowering your blood pressure, and calming your body and mind. As swell as reversing the physical stress response in the body, deep breathing can help calm and slow down the emotional turbulence in the mind. Breathing Practices have an immediate effect on helping with managing emotional reactivity and if done regularly can truly improve the quality of our mental health, our vitality and our relationship with Life events.

Combined with Specific Meditation for easing emotional stress, this Class helps you master your Breathe and your Emotional world, gradually and safely and it's suitable for all practitioners, beginners included.

Room: Studio 1
108 Sun Salutations Description
This class is not suitable for beginners.

In this class we will be leading you through a sequence of 108 repetitions of Surya Namaskar.

Why 108?

•There were initially 54 sounds in the Sanskrit alphabet: 2 X 54 = 108
•There are 108 Upanishads, which are part of the oldest scriptural texts of Hinduism. They primarily focus on philosophy, meditation, and the nature of God.
•There are 108 names for Hindu deities.
•The distance between the earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of the sun, therefore, the number 108 is taken to represent the “distance” from the devotee to the divine.
•Some say there are 108 feelings: 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present, and 36 related to the future.
•Some people believe that doing 108 Sun Salutations is a way of breaking out of the darkness that accumulated from the long winter. It’s a way of “spring cleaning,” your body and your mind.

This class is recommended for Yogis that have mastered the basic Sun Salutations sequence and the more experienced practitioners of Yoga. It is a dynamic, challenging, cleansing and meditative sequence.

workshop - Wild Woman Yoga

Cancelled
Wild Woman Yoga Description
The aim of Wild Woman Yoga is to create awareness of the cyclical female nature and provide tools of a

mindful yoga practice to support ourselves through the different phases of the cycle and learn when it’s
time to rest, to take action, to celebrate and to let go.

Benefits of Wild Woman Yoga:

Embrace the monthly changes on your physical, emotional, mental and energetical level
Take off the pressure of yourself to always be in a high performing state
Allow yourself to take the time to slow down and restore
Balance your inner masculine and feminine energy
Find your authentic expression with movement and sounding
Practice unconditional self-love by accepting all aspects of your femininity
Tap into your sensuality and sexuality as a source of creativity and transformation
Release any shame related to your womanhood and celebrate your uniqueness
Include awareness of your womb, yoni, ovaries, breast in your yoga practice
Connect to different manifestations of your feminine essence
start listening to your body based intuition
Raise the levels of your ‘feel good’ hormones

The wild woman yoga is created using the Koru method, an 8 step process:

CONNECTING women to their bodies,
CULTIVATING feminine energy,
CONTROLLING breath,
CARING for ourselves,
CLEANSING what no longer serves,
CONCENTRATING on what matters,
CO-CREATING sacred space,
CELEBRATING all that we are.

ELEMENTS INCLUDED IN WILD WOMAN YOGA

SENSES: Our senses are overstimulated and mostly we have become desensitized. We include
awareness of our senses to enrich our practice and also to train our senses to feel and sense the subtle
sensations so we are able to listen to the signals our body is sending us and give ourselves what we
really need and not what we think we want.

Sight: visualisation, dristhi, tratak (flame gazing), setting up a visually appealing environment for our practice.

Smell: use of essential oils, quality incense sticks or natural fragrances of your choice, fresh flowers or
herbs, palo santo...

Sound: practicing or meditating with music, silent or loud mantra, sounding- releasing the sounds freely
and not restricting them at any point of the practice.

Touch: bringing attention to the fingertips when they press the mat, slide over the floor or over the body.
Placing hands to different parts of the body to sense the energy and giving yourself a self massage.

Taste: In the practice we don’t always include this sense directly, but we bring this intention into our daily
life in form of mindful eating. However, it is a beautiful ritual to enjoy a special treat with full awareness
after your practice.

ELEMENTS: Connection with outer nature helps reconnect us with our inner nature as well. If you have
the chance to practice wild woman yoga outside, this offers a wonderful experience. Otherwise including
the awareness and calling in the energy of the natural elements can enhance your practice. Grounding
into the Earth to receive support (savasana, meditation), using fire to transform (candles, tratak, breath of
fire), air to uplift (pranayama, sky, masuline energy), water to move and cleanse (fluid movement, water
bowl, visualisation, cleansing)

FEMALE BODY: In the practice we are bringing awareness to different parts of the female body, which
often act as containers for repressed emotions and stuck energy, but mostly don't get any attention. We
direct our breath into our womb, ovaries, yoni, breasts, move the hips and pelvic floor.

PRANAYAMA: As mentioned above, beside the yogic pranayamas, we include also breathing into our
body parts (womb- heart breath, earth womb breath, yoni breath...) and also breathing in and out
through the mouth.

EMBODIMENT PRACTICES: Beside the yoga asana practice we include some other movements as
well, like shaking, dancing, intuitive movement, spiraling, hip circles, self-massage...At any point in the
practice you are free to move in any way you feel and are not bound to the suggested asana.
JOURNALING: after each session journaling is encouraged to reflect on the experience, note down
some insights and soul whispers and explore your intentions. There are several playsheets and
templates included to do that on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

PERSONAL RITUAL/DAILY PRACTICE: Wild Woman Yoga encourages yoginis to bring the practice
into their daily life. You can find more about this in the daily practice lecture.

Sara Jager
My yoga journey began in 2012, when I visited a yoga community in New Zealand. There my planned 2-week stay extended into 6 months, mostly because I fell in love with the diverse daily yoga classes that were offered there. Since then I have been exploring different aspects of yoga and finding ways to bring yoga from my mat into daily life. I did a 300 h Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in Slovenia and started teaching karma yoga at a humanitarian centre.

It was the long held desire to create a holistic approach, interest in different yoga styles, nutrition and awareness about how much the menstrual cycle is affecting women that eventually
lead me to create Wild Woman Yoga.

As a yoga teacher and integrative nutrition health coach my intention is to guide women back to their inner source of wisdom, so they can create a supportive and loving relationship
with themselves. I am offering individual and group programs and women circles in which I weave my passion for transformative rituals and nurturing the need for women coming together in a supportive and sacred place.

I am a passionate about bodies, soul, feelings and expression. The connection with my own body started with gymnastics. I trained for the circus  since I was 16 years old, aerial skills were already part of my life. But I was curious to learn about how to keep your body healthy, which open the door to Yoga.  I believe yoga practise is the best for ourselves, to take care of the body and the mind, working together, connecting with the breath. Yoga has helped me with finding balance in my life, and I love to have the possibility of transmitting this amazing practise.

Sigrid Turner
Sigrid is originally from the UK and is a Matwork Pilates Teacher through the method of Body Control Pilates. She has gone on to train in specialist courses such as Pilates for lower back pain, Pilates for antenatal and post natal and myofascial release techniques.

Sigrid discovered the benefits of Pilates initially through her ballet training and immediately felt and saw results. It was the benefit of movement and Pilates that allowed her to remain strong and injury free throughout her life.

Dynamic - Mindful Movement Yoga

Room: Studio 2
Mindful Movement Yoga Description
Like every yoga class, this class invites you to move mindfully. We will be focusing on movement education through exploration and reflection. We will move in yogic and non yogic ways.

The aim of the class is to create a counterbalance to the so often sedative, predominantly seated lifestyles. Keeping yourself strong, flexible and open minded about the body and movement experiences. There is a different focus every week. You can expect education about posture and movement physiology as well as some music.

Anne Soeffken
My yoga classes are inspired by my long standing fascination for anatomy and physiology. 15 years of experience in manual therapy and movement education allow me to look at yoga from a therapists perspective. When I was introduced to yoga I immediately thought this movement practice has great potential to guide people through an exploration of the postural integrity of their bodies as well as establishing a mind body connection enabling a person to truly heal from the inside. I am also the mother of 2 year old Bruno, who keeps me on the ball and makes the mindful movement practice even more challenging and fun.
I trained as a physiotherapist in Hamburg, Germany. After some time in practice I started seeking a more holistic approach to patient care. I went to study osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy in Kent, England. This Masters Degree course entailed structural osteopathic techniques and orthopedic diagnosis as well as training in cranial osteopathy and visceral techniques. I have great interest in the influence of fascial tensions and restrictions on a person’s posture, wellbeing and performance.
Recently I qualified in Germany as a breastfeeding counsellor which is mostly to support my knowledge when treating babies and mamas osteopathically and motivated me to start the mums meetups in Malta to offer a space for connecting and support for mothers.

Best for: students who want to work up a sweat and build stamina and strength.

I discovered Yoga in Australia in 2011, after trying a Bikram class just because it was the only “thing” available.... I actually thought it was a kind of gentle gymnastics.
Very wrong I realized I was…
I’m always up for a good challenge… And the “challenge” of my life I had found!

To me Yog(a) has grown to be a “real” practice, that allows us to re-dis-cover how to be in our body, this perfect, conscious machine that we’re born with-in. Yog(a) develops strength, flexibility, and awareness… and up to us it is to evolve further and create the “union”... create the Yog(a)... allow it to flow! Yog(a) is only a bridge between the mind and the body and the spirit… the glue that bonds the cliche!

Aaron Falzon
